Baptism is more than just “getting wet.” Baptism is a deep picture of what we believe as Christians. In late January 2011, we began a Bible study at The Birmingham Dream Center that began growing quickly, as people were exposed to life and grace. About a month into it, we paused and taught on baptism. In the Bible Belt, we’ve seen it- and even participated in it. But, many times we’re not sure what is going on with it.
In this lesson, we discuss that baptism shows:
- What happened to Jesus in the past (that He died, was buried, and arose from the grave);
- What happens to Christians who have died in the past (that they died, were buried, and will get out of their graves);
- What happens to us in the future (that unless Christ returns soon we will also die, be buried, and jump out of our graves);
- What happens to us in the present (that we have died, that the old man has been buried, that a new man is alive)!
